One old man and a bucket of cow-dung. This film offers an inspiring alternative to the abuse of modern agribusiness. One courageous gentleman, Peter Proctor, addresses this issue right at the heart of where people are hurting most. Relinquishing a comfortable retirement in New Zealand, Peter takes us to India, where commercial agriculture masquerades as a prosperous method of food production. The reality is that over 150,000 small farmers since 1993 have resorted to suicide as an escape from the debt and enslavement of corporate tyranny. It is also shockingly clear that our environmental resources will not forever support the avarice of modern agricultural development.
Peter's solution is clear and simple: sustainable, biodynamic farming. The temerity of the Indian farmers reclaiming their lands and lives by adopting Peter's methods offers hope for us all - because the devastation of our environment affects every living entity on earth. This film:
- Reveals a food supply system that can sustain the planet and protect human rights
- Talks to people at the heart of the matter: Indian farmers, business managers, government officials and scientists
- Tackles issues such as consumerism, globalisation and the pursuit of economic profitability at all costs.
Modern agriculture causes topsoil to be eroded at 3 million tons per hour (that’s 26 billion tons a year!). Human mass (waste) is replacing biomass and other species. The carrying capacity of the earth is almost spent. To maintain our comfort zone lifestyles we will soon need five earths to sustain us in the style to which we have become accustomed. The mantra of free trade has failed the world’s poor. There is a better way. Biodynamic agriculture may be the only answer we have left.
