John Lennon

Aelph and Keiran
If you haven't heard of John Lennon - well I doubt there is anyone on the planet who hasn't heard of him!! He is probably the most famous person to come out of Liverpool, along with his Beatle companions.

Born John Winston Lennon on 9 October 1940 – John was an English rock musician, singer, writer, songwriter, artist, actor and peace activist who gained worldwide fame as one of the founding members of The Beatles.

John, along with Paul McCartney, formed one of the most influential and successful songwriting partnerships and wrote some of the most popular music in rock and roll history.

John revealed his rebellious nature and wit on television, in films such as A Hard Day's Night, in books such as In His Own Write, and in press conferences and interviews. He was controversial through his work as a peace activist, artist, and author.

After The Beatles, John launched a successful solo career, during which he wrote and recorded many songs such as "Give Peace a Chance" and "Imagine". After a self-imposed "retirement" from 1976 to 1980, John reemerged with a comeback album, but was murdered one month later in New York City on 8 December 1980, on the steps of his apartment building.

His music has inspired many and his life was uncompromisingly directed towards understanding the nature of our world and pointing the finger at the ludicrous hypocracy of our political controllers.

John had two sons: Julian Lennon, with his first wife Cynthia Lennon, and Sean Ono Lennon, with his second wife, avant-garde artist Yoko Ono.

In 2002, respondents to a BBC poll on the 100 Greatest Britons voted John Lennon into 8th place. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Lennon number 38 on its list of "The Immortals: The Fifty Greatest Artists of All Time" and ranked The Beatles at number 1.

John was passionate about his life, about peace and ultimately about understanding. As he said, "Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see".
