Tina Malia

Her voice is as pure as fresh water bubbling from a mountain spring. As a songwriter, she evokes visions of a higher realm, a place of peace and oneness, yet her words are very much of this world, and of the earth. Her name is Tina Malia - a name that will be well known before long, because this young woman is destined for musical immortality.
Magical Blend Magazine

Tina Malia's luxurious voice and enchanting presence is creating a stir from coast to coast and across the world. Her original music touches the listener with elevating lyrics and deep, earthy rhythms. Trained as a classical pianist and vocalist, and inspired by her roots in American folk and soul music, she has also been widely influenced by music from around the world. Her music marries the timelessness of all these styles with a new flair all her own. She has been compared to such legendary female artists as Joni Mitchell, Sarah McLaughlin, and Loreena McKennitt.

After studying sound engineering and classical vocal performance, she began her professional music career at age 18 as a producer, engineer and vocalist for a children's music label out of Northern California. She then went on to produce two of her own recordings, and has just released her third "the Silent Awakening". It features a rich, groove oriented, acoustic and electric feast by percussionist Greg Ellis of Vas, renowned violinist Darol Anger, vocalist Sasha Butterfly, MJ Greenmountain from Hamsa Lila, and more. With Tina Malia on vocals, guitar, 12-string, piano, marimba and hammer dulcimer.

Tina Malia is an integral part of a grass-roots musical movement originating from the San Francisco Bay area, and tours nationally and internationally with her 5 piece band. She is also a featured vocalist with Jai Uttal and the Pagan Love Orchestra, and has toured with Hamsa Lila, Lost at Last, and shared stages with Michael Franti, Wisdom, Kan'nal, and many other counter culture bands. She has also performed at many major festivals across the United States including the Oregon Country Faire, Tribal Stomp, Harmony Fest, Earthdance, the Sacred World Music Festival, Reggae on the River and many more.

Be sure to catch her and her band's breathtaking performances this year as they travel to Europe, around the entire continental U.S. and Hawaii for the release of "The Silent Awakening."

Lullaby Favorites: Music for Little People

Lullaby Favorites collects ten eclectic bedtime songs performed by Tina Malia . Malia 's gentle, rounded soprano glides over 'All the Pretty Little Horses,' 'Brahms Lullaby,' 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow,' and 'Rock-A-Bye Baby,' but her rendition of 'Summertime' is especially beautiful. All in all, Lullaby Favorites is as pretty and listenable as it is soothing.

Shores of Avalon Tina Malia - Shores of Avalon

Tina Malia is one of those musicians that I greatly admire. She is a classically trained vocalist, pianist and guitarist and is blessed with an incredibly beautiful voice. She also wrote and produced the entire CD.
She sings of mystical things, maidens fair, and ships at sea with a beauty and passion I haven't heard since the early 90s when Sarah McLachlan first caught my attention. Tina's voice is almost as gorgeous as Sarah's (I dare say).

This is the epitome of the beautiful album. The songs are intricately woven and excellently performed. If you are looking for a CD to play to relax to, dine to or get romantic to, this is it.

Jaya Baghavan Tina Malia & Shimshai - Jaya Bhagavan

For centuries people have been chanting the names of the divine in order to uplift the spirit and bring peace to the mind. Now we have begun to feel their presence here in the West, and receive the blessings of their beauty. Singers/ instrumentalists, Tina Malia and Shimshai, bring their angelic vocals and acoustic instruments to these ancient melodies and mantras. Including guitars, 12 string, percussion from Africa and the Middle East, dulcimer, sitara, kalimba and more. The CD includes a talented array of musicians, including Sasha Butterfly, Al Torre, Vir McCoy and MJ Greenmountain from Hamsa Lila, Lakshmi Ma, and special honored guests Jai Uttal on vocals and dotar, Omar Faruk Tekbilek on vocals, ney and baglama saz, and Yair Dalal on violin and oud. Simple and deeply moving, there are tastes of India, Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas The presence that lies within these ancient mantras move and heal in remarkable ways, and the CD captures that very essence. Making this project has truly been a labor of love for Tina, Shimshai and all involved. Best of all, it comes in 100% recycled packaging with no plastic (except the CD of course)!

The Silent Awakening Tina Malia - The Silent Awakening

This album has to be the single most moving and emotional recording by any artist in years. I first happened upon Tina with "Shores of Avalon" and with the follow-up album, I was a little nervous to say the least. I didn't think she could top that CD or its title track, but she has.

If for no other song on the album (all of which are stellar), buy this one for the song "ALL ROADS." This is an utterly perfect piece of songwriting. It, like most of Tina's music, is acoustic guitar based. There are a few other instruments softly intermingled with the guitar on this song, but the music fades into the background and the main instrument that can be heard is Tina's etherial, chill-inducing vocal. At about 3 1/2 minutes into the song, just when you think it can't possibly get any better, equally silver-piped Sasha Butterfly joins Tina on the final chorus with a weaving, intertwined, harmonic alternate lyric and vocal that when it is joined with Tina's lyric and vocal is enough to make you stop in your tracks and burst into tears. - Michael Hargreaves
