Plastictides.com interview with Chris Hines by Matt Schmidt. The purpose of this web site is to highlight the damage done from plastic bags around the world, to our oceans, our landfills and entire eco system. About four-fifths of marine litter comes from land-based sources such as roads, rivers and landfill sites. Nearly 90% of floating marine litter is plastic. We each dispose of 185lb of plastic every year. Marine wildlife suffers because of this plastic tide causing the deaths of hundreds of thousands of birds, whales, seals and turtles every year. Research has also shown that estrogen mimics which come from the plasticisers that make plastic flexible can disrupt the animal, as well as the human hormone system.
